Early Childhood Development (ECD) is a period of fast and critical development that starts right from when a child is conceived up to eight years. Quality nurturing care is critical during this time for children’s physical, cognitive, linguistic and social-emotional development. Young children must receive adequate nutrition and access good health care during these early years. They must be protected, encouraged to play and stimulated with early learning activities.

ELRU Programmes are aimed at strengthening the ability of the primary caregiver, whether a mother, father aunty, gogo or Educare practitioner. By building the capacity of the adults around the young child during each age and stage of their development, we can facilitate access to all the essential building blocks children need to thrive.

At birth, the average baby’s brain is about a quarter of the size of the average adult brain. Incredibly, it doubles in size in the first year. It keeps growing to about 80% of adult size by age 3 and 90% – nearly full grown – by age 5.

Good or bad, all experiences from birth (and even before birth) directly connect to future learning capacity, behaviours, and physical and mental health.

Healthy development in the early years (particularly birth to three, when brain growth is at its most rapid) provides the building blocks for educational achievement, economic productivity, responsible citizenship, lifelong health, strong communities, and successful parenting of the next generation.

Online learning is internet-based education, often referred to as “e-learning”, among other terms. It is a method of education whereby students learn in a completely virtual environment – not in a traditional classroom, but rather learning through online videos and assignments.

The benefits of e-learning include added flexibility and self-paced learning, better time management, demonstrated self-motivation, improved virtual communication and collaboration, a broader, global perspective, refined critical-thinking skills and new technical skills.

The ELRU Academy offers online accredited and non-accredited blended learning courses, perfect for those working, and available in individual skills programmes so you can pay as you learn!
